Haith’s Open Day!

Eco-Friendly Holidaying…

As we are now officially in holiday season, you might be thinking of getting away for a well-deserved break. You can take some steps to make your getaways more sustainable by doing the following.

Reusable Crockery

If you decide to go on a picnic, bring reusable crockery. You can buy some lovely, colourful sets from most large supermarkets. Why not fill your picnic basket with food bought locally? This is another way you can help the environment.

Activity Planning

Take part in activities that have a minimal environmental impact. For example, instead of heading to the cinema which requires lots of energy to run, go on a nature walk or head down to the beach for a swim. Even if you change one high-energy activity to one that requires less, you’ll be making a positive difference.

Eco-friendly Accommodation

When booking hotels or B&Bs, try and book ones with green certifications. There are many green certifications in the UK, including:

Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) - https://www.greentourism.com/

Green Key - https://www.greenkey.global/

EarthCheck - https://earthcheck.org/

The above cover areas such as energy use, water conservation, waste management, environmental management, sustainable business practices and community impact.

Travel Locally

You don’t have to go abroad to have a fantastic holiday! The UK has some beautiful places and by sticking local, you’ll be reducing your carbon footprint.
