THE NON-NEGOTIABLE

PREPARE IT PROPERLY

Dried particle baits are not ready simply because they have been soaked. Preparation varies by ingredient, so always follow the relevant product instructions and detailed guide.

FRESH, FERMENTED OR FINISHED?

KNOW WHEN TO WALK AWAY.

Fermentation and spoilage are not the same thing. Haith's archive guidance recommends using hemp-containing blends fresh and discarding any particle bait that develops a rank or unpleasant smell.

USE

FRESHLY PREPARED

Correctly soaked, cooked and cooled particles used within an appropriate timeframe.

CHECK

SLIGHTLY SWEET

Some ingredients may ferment, but suitability depends on the particle and preparation method.

DISCARD

RANK OR ROTTEN

Do not put spoiled bait into the water. If in doubt, leave it out.

THE SAFE STARTING POINT

SOAKING ALONE IS NOT PREPARATION

Dried seeds, grains and nuts used as particles need the correct preparation. Timings differ, so use the individual product guidance and Haith's detailed preparation articles.

  1. 01

    CHECK THE PARTICLE

Confirm whether the product needs soaking and cooking. Do not apply one timing to every ingredient.

  2. 02

    SOAK CORRECTLY

Use a suitable container, enough clean water and the period specified for that particle.

  3. 03

    COOK THOROUGHLY

Follow the relevant method and take particular care with hot water, steam and pressure-cooking equipment.

  4. 04

    COOL AND STORE

Allow the prepared bait to cool safely and keep it clean and covered until use.

  5. 05

    INSPECT BEFORE USE

Discard anything spoiled, mouldy or unpleasant-smelling. Never introduce questionable bait into the water.
