Sunflower Hearts as Carp Bait Part 1: Benefits and Methods

Anyone tried sunflower hearts as carp bait? These are actually de-husked sunflower seeds, and unlike the seeds themselves, the hearts sink ok.

Sunflower hearts without the husks on.

I tried them for the first time this week and the response seemed pretty positive with lots of activity over the baited area. Sadly I did not take enough to really assess their worth, but I feel sure they will be worth experimenting with. I soaked a pound or so overnight, then cooked them for 15 minutes.

They tasted lovely and nutty after preparation and I ate more than the fish!
They are light in density so settle well on silt and weed and are a very visual bait. Watch this space!
