Collection: Foreign Finch Seed & Food – Specialised Mixes for Exotic Finches

Foreign finches include a wide range of domesticated species and colour mutations, with some of the most commonly kept being Zebra Finches, Bengalese, and Gouldian Finches. Originating largely from tropical regions, these birds benefit from feeding regimes designed specifically for tropical and foreign finch species.

A balanced foreign finch diet is built around high-quality mixed millets, combined with canary seed and carefully selected plain seeds to provide variety and nutritional balance. Typical mixtures include red, yellow and Japanese millet, premium panicum, and Haith’s Canadian canary seed.

To support overall condition, tonic and supplementary mixes may also include plain seeds such as niger, linseed, rape, hemp, and teazel, helping to address natural variations in vitamin and mineral intake.

During the breeding season, many adult foreign finches will also take insectivorous and rearing foods, supporting both parental condition and the healthy development of chicks.

When birds show signs of needing extra support, Foreign Finch Tonic Food can be introduced as part of a varied feeding routine. Encouraging natural foraging behaviour remains important, with suspended millet sprays offering both nutrition and enrichment.

I’ve been keeping and breeding Australian and African finches since the early 1960s. I’ve used Haith’s seed pretty much all that time. Predominantly, I use the Foreign Finch Tonic.”
