Alone at last, the couple turn into contortionists! A pair of Robins don’t so much dance as strike poses, often involving bending their bodies into yoga like positions. It is wonderfully weird, but it doesn’t last long before they move on to the “Feed Me” routine.
This involves the female fluttering her wings and begging, just like her fledglings eventually will. This is a challenge to the male to find food as quickly as possible. I have no doubt at all that my garden male is grateful that I put out mealworms, so that he can feed his lady at a rate that must surely bowl her over. Having proved that he will be a good provider, he is invited to consummate the relationship. Thanks to me!
