NatureSpace with Haith’s Open Day 2024

NatureSpace with Haith’s Open Day 2024

Back in January, the challenge was set: arrange Haith’s first Open Day in our new premises here in Louth. This was a daunting task, with little to no event planning experience, two team members, Angela Cullen and Julianne Jessett kick-started the proceedings. It was certainly a learning-on-the-job experience! Seven months later, and with the help of the Haith’s team, it was showtime.

On the 7th of August 2024, we hosted our Open Day with the intent of promoting nature and engaging with the local community. The marquee was decorated, signs were in place and volunteers were in position. We felt nervous and excited as stallholders started to arrive. Once everyone was in position, we waited eagerly for 10 am, opening time!

We didn’t know what to expect. 10 am came and to our amazement cars started to pile in! People of all ages entered through the gates ready to explore what we had on offer. We were off to a great start!

We had a variety of stalls: those selling artwork crafted with passion, delicious food and stylish home décor. We were lucky to be joined by Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust who interacted with children at a designated stand and promoted membership in a dedicated gazebo. Our children’s area was buzzing – with a free bouncy castle and facepainting, parents made the most of a well-deserved break as their little ones enjoyed themselves! Pie-O-Neers, Lincs Barista and Bensley’s Ice Cream kept everyone happy with their tasty treats. Our guest speakers, James The Canoe River Cleaner, Dale from Louth District Beekeepers and Martin Woods, former head gardener of Sandringham, kept visitors entertained with their talks in the speaker marquee.

At 10:30 am, we were honoured to be joined by the Mayor of Louth, Councillor Julia Simmons, and her Consort. Rachael Haith, one of Haith’s directors, Angela Cullen and Julianne Jessett lead them on a tour of the building. They were guided through the shop, office, Fulfilment Centre and factory. Afterwards, everyone settled on the decking to enjoy tea and cake. Rachael Haith gave a history of Haith’s and showed two books filled with memorabilia. Discussions took place and then The Mayor and Consort were accompanied around the stalls and introduced to participants of the day. It was wonderful to meet them both; their passion for the local community was inspiring.

During this time, chief reporter of the Louth Leader, Dianne Tuckett, joined us. We shared words about the day and our intention to share a love for nature with the local people.

As the ending of our Open Day approached, and despite the blowing wind, we still had a steady flow of people. The Haith’s team thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the public and seeing them enjoy themselves. It was definitely a success, and we were amazed at the turnout.

We hope everyone enjoyed sharing a passion for nature with us and partaking in the fun activities we had on offer. A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the event happen. The Haith’s Team, volunteers, stallholders, foodies, children’s entertainment and speakers. Without you, we couldn’t have made this happen.

Is another event on the cards? I guess you’ll just have to wait and see…
