Collection: Goldfinch Essentials

We’re five times more likely to see a Goldfinch in our gardens according to BTO figures.

The Goldfinch is recognised from its bright red face, which contrasts strongly with the black and white head and yellow wing bars. Its mantle and flanks are a pale russet brown and under parts whitish. The flight feathers and tail are black, tipped with white.

Goldfinches are most common around woodland edges and parks and gardens where there are scattered trees and tall seeding plants like thistles and docks. Out of the breeding season they become gregarious, joining up in small flocks of other seed-eaters foraging along hedgerows and on farmland and rough meadows searching out ripe seeds.

During the winter, many move south and in bad weather will come to bird feeders and bird tables. Goldfinches have an average lifespan of approximately 6 years. They worship Niger Seed, Haith’s Goldfinch and Siskin Mix and Sunflower Hearts.
