Swifts are remarkable birds that spend almost their entire lives in flight. In fact, they can remain airborne for months at a time without landing.

They only land to breed and before they can breed, Swifts must find a suitable nesting site - a challenge today, as their natural nesting places are rapidly disappearing.

They are colony breeders. It's therefore advisable to hang four or more swift houses near to each other. 

This nesting box provides the perfect solution, offering Swifts a safe, ideal place to raise their young. Once a Swift establishes a nest here, the same pair will return year after year.

The box features a durable zinc roof and a convenient side door for easy inspection and cleaning. Can be put up at anytime as it will be used by overwintering insects, but should certainly be in position before Swifts return in May.

The Common Swift is a protected bird.

NOT HAPPY WITH QUALITY OF BOX

AS LIKE OTHER REVIEWERS THE BOX DOES NOT MEET SPECIFICATIONS THAT ARE EXPECTED OF A GOOD QUALITY NEST BOX FLOOR NOT BIG ENOUGH STAPLED TOGETHER WITH POOR QUALITY WOOD JUST STRIPS OF WOOD GLUED TOGETHER MOUNTING POINT FOR SCREWS WILL NOT LAST A ENGLISH WINTER OR HARSH WEATHER DOOR WARPED ALLREADY AND ILL FITTING NOT WHAT I EXPEXTED

European Swift box

I took the opportunity to buy one of these at a reduced price.
It arrived the next day.
The design is a bit different and I noted it was made in Europe and a bit different in design to the ones we use in the Uk.
Personally I don’t believe the floor space is wide enough and the entrance hole is too high from the floor but I suppose this design has been tested with results?
The overall length of the box but the build quality questionable as it’s laminated pieces of soft wood pine and held together with staples of which I have a couple not fitted properly.
I will endeavour to fix the build quality issues and put it up near to my successful boxes and see what happens.
Below is a internal of one successful box I built and has had Swift next 3 years now.
So overall I am disappointed more for such a reputable company such as Haiths.
Who incidentally could have given a supply contract to very successful nest box supplier John Stimpson.

Disappointed

The box was purchased as a gift for a house that is surrounded by swifts every year.
It was given in the original packaging, so I did not see it until it was opened.
Whilst I doubt the swifts will care, the construction of the box was poor.
The box has gone to France, regrettably it did not occur to me to take photographs on the day.
I would not buy another.
