Product Testing and Team Development

  • carp fishing lake near Louth

On Wednesday, our small team - Chris, Charlotte, and Ed - undertook a focused, on-site product test at a well-regarded still water fishery located a short distance from our base Louth. The primary goals were to assess the performance of a new combination boilie blend - made from Haith’s Honey Red and Liquid Robin Red - and to give Ed, our newest team member, a practical introduction to angling.

It was a productive and enjoyable day, with favourable weather, meaningful insights, and several quality fish caught - including a welcome surprise in the form of a perch.

Trip Purpose and Setup

prepping boilies

This was a working visit rather than a recreational outing. Chris, who led the session, had recently developed a bespoke boilie blend by combining two of Haith’s premium ingredients: Honey Red and Liquid Robin Red. The aim was to field-test the bait’s effectiveness in a real-world setting and evaluate its consistency across multiple rig types and fishing styles.

The secondary objective was to introduce Ed to coarse fishing - specifically carp angling - and give him first-hand experience of bait preparation, rig assembly, casting, fish playing, and safe handling practices.

We arrived early to make the most of the settled weather and light angling pressure. The setting, with its mature tree line, reed-lined margins, and clear water, was ideal for both product evaluation and practical training.

Bait Presentation and Method

  • Our approach was simple but methodical. Chris had rolled a small batch of 14mm boilies using a 50/50 ratio of Honey Red and Liquid Robin Red base mixes. The combination created a bait with both sweet and spicy attractors - designed to work year-round and appeal to pressured fish.

  • We used a mixture of standard bottom-bait rigs and critically balanced presentations to target different feeding levels and encourage natural investigation. Each team member fished with one rod, and we spread the lines across a small area to increase our coverage and avoid line overlap. Chris provided a concise tutorial for Ed on how to thread, tie, and test rigs before casting. Within the first hour, he had completed his first proper cast under supervision - an encouraging start.

Shortly after, Ed experienced his first proper take. With guidance from Chris, he brought in a healthy mirror carp. It was a proud moment and an excellent introduction to the sport for him. The fish was carefully released - demonstrating best-practice handling techniques.

As the day progressed, activity remained steady. Between us, we landed carp and one perch. The perch was an unexpected but welcome addition, and its presence suggested the bait’s versatility and cross-species appeal. Though unintentional, it confirmed that the blend had the potential to interest more than just carp. Unfortunately, as no scales where taken, the team were unable to record the weight however while we weren’t specifically targeting larger specimens, the fish caught were in excellent condition and responded confidently to the bait.

  • two bags of bait and liquid robin red

The decision to combine Honey Red and Liquid Robin Red in a single boilie mix was based on the desire to pair two proven attractors into one cohesive product. Honey Red provides a sweet, soluble profile ideal for quick attraction, while Liquid Robin Red brings deep, spicy notes and nutritional value. Throughout the session, the combination proved reliable, drawing in fish under both low and high light conditions. It also held up well in the water, retaining structural integrity while still allowing for flavour release. No fish appeared to be hook-shy, and all takes were clean with firm hook-holds - another good indicator of confidence in the bait.

Summary and Outcomes

This working visit achieved its key objectives:

  • The Honey Red and Liquid Robin Red combination boilie performed well in a live angling environment, demonstrating consistent take rates and broad appeal.
  • The bait attracted both carp and perch, confirming cross-species effectiveness and suggesting potential for broader application.
  • Ed gained hands-on experience and landed his first fish - a milestone we were all pleased to witness.
  • Chris and Charlotte gathered real-time product feedback, reinforcing the bait’s stability, visual appeal, and hookbait performance.

There was favourable feedback from all participants, and we left the lake satisfied and encouraged by the results.
