How to make your own boilies and save money - by Anthony Wood - Haith's

How to make your own boilies and save money - by Anthony Wood

Hi, my name is Anthony Wood and I have been making baits for over 20 years.  I started out just making basic paste recipes with my granddad and progressed from there onto making groundbaits, boilies and more.
Haith's CLO

There are many ways of making baits, especially boilies, and everyone will argue that their way of making baits is the best. You can make a simple boilie from a mix of semolina, 45% soya flour and 10% egg albumin.  This will make you a good basic boilie but the fish will soon realise that there isn't a great deal of nutrition or protein in the bait, which is an essential requirement for making a bait that will last you for more than one season that will catch you plenty of fish.
There are things that you can do to improve this basic mix such as, adding a liquid amino, crushed multivitamin tablet or other supplement; however, a much better way to improve your baits is to improve the quality of the ingredients you use.  For example, a mix of 70% Breadcrumb and 30% Haith's Mealworm Crumble will give you a fantastic, easy to make groundbait that will pull fish in to your swim.

If you have ever made your own boilies you will know that getting the base mix right is one of the hardest parts of making a boilie. Get the base mix right and you almost don't have to add any flavourings or additives. Now I rate Haith's ingredients very highly for quality, nutrient and protein addition to my baits and have been using them for longer than I can remember and you will also find them in some of the top brand boilie manufacturers’ boilies. With ingredients starting from as little as £3 there really are ingredients that everyone can afford.

In the boilie making world there are many types of base mix made but most are based around three types of base mix, these are; milk protein, birdseed and fishmeal.  There are unlimited combinations of these three or even mixes of the three themselves; however, I will give you my three versions of the above mixes:

Please could somebody explain, though, what the ingredients are actually doing in/for the bait – in more detail – i.e binding, providing protein, leakage, controlled breakdown, structure, firmness, solubility etc. etc. thanks its the same on Ken’s posts theres not enough detail on what the ingredients are actually achieving
