Collection: Fieldfare Food

The Fieldfare can be recognised from its 'thrush' shape and its grey crown, nape and rump along with a chestnut-brown back. Like a bird that is more used to the isolated conditions of the far north of Scandinavia, it is no wonder that this winter migrant is highly shy, only coming into our gardens in search of food during very bad weather.

They will take any berries that are left on the hedgerows such as rosehips and Hawthorne berries and even turn to the dried up sloes on the Blackthorn bushes when really hungry.

When the ground is covered in thick snow and birds are driven off the open fields, putting out a number of apples or pears frequently brings Fieldfares in to feed. And what a beautiful sight it is to see! Of course, the fruit will also attract the Blackbirds but as the Fieldfares are a little more dominant, they get the food first.

At the same time as putting out fruit for these birds, try some Haith's Fat Robin Winter Mix and Golden Chorus scattered alongside. Once they get to recognise it they should be back for more.

The Haith's Foreign Finch Feeding System

Experienced finch keepers rarely rely on a single food alone. A balanced finch diet typically combines a quality seed mix, conditioning foods, enrichment, essential minerals and additional nutritional support. Together these foods help maintain vitality, support breeding condition and encourage natural feeding behaviour.
