Budgies Love Fruit and Veg
Budgerigars are one of the most popular birds in the world. They were first brought into Europe during the 1840’s, and by the end of century they were bred at an enormous scale.
The Budgerigar is also known as the “common pet parakeet” or “shell parakeet” and informally nicknamed the “budgie” (Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). It’s a small bird that makes up for its size by being the champion chatterboxes of the avian world (some birds can build up their vocabulary by 500 words or more). Male and female birds can both sing and mimic words, but it is most perfect in the male bird. This is quite incredible for such a small bird.

Fruit for Budgies
As part of a healthy diet, fresh fruit and vegetables should always be on the menu as these are loved by budgies. Just like us, budgies like a variety of food to eat, and there are plenty of fruits and vegetables to choose from! Here are some ideas that your budgie might like to try...
Nontoxic fruits such as:
Apples, bananas, a variety of berries, grapes, kiwi, mango, melons, nectarine, papaya, peach, pears, plum, variety of citrus, raspberries, strawberries and even tomatoes can be given.
Fruit brings a little bit of fun into a budgie's life as they like to play with their food!
Vegetables for Budgies
Broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, cucumber, cabbage, fresh beans, lettuce, fresh peas, parsnips, a variety of peppers, sweet potatoes, turnips, yams and a variety of squash.
Before preparing any food they should be washed first.
Cooking fruit and vegetables can take away vital nutrients, so it is best to feed them raw.
Find a way in which your budgie would like the food to be served – chopped-shredded-sliced-pureed or it can be given whole.
Raw cut vegetables should not be left more than 2-3 hours, as they can go off very quickly. If some have not been eaten they should be removed.
